Here is an old picture of me and my three siblings (Yes, my sisters are Korean (adopted) and yes, I was a particularly flashy dresser at the time)... But look at the close-up below. Two things to notice here: (1) I seem to have suffered some kind of horrifying accident to my left hand (which I have both forgotten AND recovered from in the intervening years). How else to explain the apparent amputation of all four fingers? But more importantly... (2) I am wearing a totally amazing and ultra-cool calculator watch. Yeah! Awesome! Oh well. At least my hair is better than my brother's (some things never change)...
I bought my first ever bow-tie this week. Well, my first ever REAL bow-tie that needs to be tied (as opposed to a clip-on tie). I have learned two things from this experience:
(1) I look absolutely ridiculous in a bow-tie. It makes my true geekiness WAY too apparent (2) tying a bow-tie is WAY harder than a regular tie. You know how annoyed / frustrated / despondent you get some times with difficult math questions (word-problems anyone?). That's how I felt with this damn tie. At one point I ripped it off and threw it on the ground. Talk about a ridiculous image. And then, once I FINALLY succeeded in getting it tied correctly, the results were... uh... less than inspiring. Don't expect me to wear my bow-tie to school anytime soon (or wear it AT ALL for that matter). Anyway... I must have watched about 20 videos (each of which purported to make tying a bow-tie about as easy as washing a raspberry. LIARS!!!) before I found THIS one. And this one actually helped! Even if you DON'T want to tie a bow-tie, watch the video. It's THAT good!! I took Sophia to the dentist on Thursday (downtown) and had 40 minutes to kill. I needed a haircut (I'm sure you noticed, right?) and the receptionist told me that there was a new place just down the street. So I headed out, ran into Galena B and her mom (such a nice lady!), and then found the place. When I walked in, the girl at the front look confused / horrified.
Me: "Can I get a haircut?" She: "Do you want it ALL cut? Me: Uuuuh... yeah. Ten minutes into the shearing process I realized... I'm the only white person in here. And there are no scissors. Only razors. I don't think I'm what they'd consider a "typical" client. The (approximately) 17 year old guy (Vik) who was assigned to me ("he's good. REALLY good") was so nervous, he bolted for the bathroom at one point. The entire process took 90 minutes. NINETY MINUTES of having a razor passed over my head (with an endless changing of blade sizes)!! Vik then proceeded to take photos of me with his Iphone from all 3 vantage points (front, side, back). Something tells me I shouldn't expect to find myself in the gallery with the rest of these past clients (these shots are from their website)... I love music. And I LOVE going to concerts. I'll go see (almost) anything. Got a free ticket to Justin Bieber? I'll take it! Anyway, I figured out this summer that I've seen over 200 concerts in my life. And I've seen some big acts - U2, Radiohead, Metallica, Tool, AC/DC, Prince, Roger Waters, The Police, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, etc. These are some of the bands that are often named amongst the best live acts of all time. But the one guy who I haven't seen - and who is often named as the greatest of all! - is Bruce Springsteen. And today I got my tickets to see "The Boss" in November! Yahoo! Thanks to Bijan who got through on his phone so I could get some good seats. You da man Bijan!! More exciting news. I ordered a new suit on-line (from Indochino - does anyone else have their ad showing up EVERYWHERE on your Facebook / Gmail / etc?) and it arrived today... and it fits great! Psyched to wear it for my (big) birthday next week. Here's the suit (probably don't wear it as well as this guy)... Sadly, I also got a flat tire on my way home on my bike. Not a huge deal (had TONS before) but had big problems getting enough air in the new tube. FRUSTRATING!! Here is a picture of me changing the tire. JOKING!!!! I don't wear spandex... well, at least not when I am riding to school. What happens on the weekends need not be mentioned here... |
